A Company Who Gives a Crap

The Problem:

One third of the global population does not have access to proper sanitation, with over 2.3 million who have no toilet at all. This leads to a multitude of global issues that are threatening human health and causing environmental issues. Every day, 2 million tons of sewage and other wastewater drain into the world's waters. (UN). Almost 900 children die every day from diseases caused by not having a proper loo or clean water. That's one child every two minutes. (Water Aid)

The Solution:

Luckily, there's a company doing something about this. Who Gives A Crap not only makes toilet paper out of 100% recycled paper but they also donate 50% of their profits to help build toilets for those in need. Toilets are proven to be a great solution, because the provide dignity, health, and improved quality of life. In case that wasn't enough, it's been shown that a dollar invested in sanitation yields $5.50 in increased economic prosperity. Toilets are magical!

The Story:

Simon, Jehan and Danny love toilet paper. Lots of room for toilet jokes. But really, they love toilet paper because it's their way of making a difference.

They started Who Gives A Crap when they learnt that 2.3 billion people across the world don't have access to a toilet, and 900 kids were dying per day. They thought that was pretty crap.

So in July 2012, this motley team launched Who Gives A Crap with a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo. Simon sat on a toilet in their draughty warehouse and refused to move until they had raised enough pre-orders to start production. A mere 50 hours and one cold bottom later, they'd raised over $50,000! (see the video here) They delivered their first product in March 2013 and have been thrilled to keep growing ever since.
